Last post

I'm going to close the "Somewhere in Indiana" blog and start another. The closing on the house went fine. Packing was crazy but we got out in time. The trip went well. I will post a few highlights.

Western Nebraska

 Cabela's headquarters, Nebraska

Cheyenne Wyoming

Sunset in Cheyenne

Wild horses along I-80, Wyoming

Our bunny enjoying our room in Utah

Redwood log from Crescent City, CA in Winnemucca, Nevada

Beautiful flowering bushes in northwest Nevada

We are thankful we took this route to northern California. It was quite remote but the roads were good. The scenery in northern Nevada was stunning. I had never seen it before.

6 more days!

We have to be out by midnight Saturday, but we will probably bug out early. We are tired but there is more to pack. We have a full week. We are taking our bunny to the vet on Wednesday so he can get his certificate of health...just in case a border check asks. Thursday is the closing. I have a whole laundry list of things to do, plus finish packing.

SOLD!!!

We are happy the house is sold. At the end of this month we will go from this:

To this:

I am looking forward to living in a remote area again. I haven't done this since I lived in the desert as a child. The climate is quite cool on the coast. It will be different, and beautiful.

The "Not" Inspection

A price is agreed upon, which cannot be lowered. However the sale is contingent upon an inspection, meaning the buyers have the right to back out of the sale if they don't like the results. An inspection has a 24 hour notice.

OK, so on with the story....I was sorting through papers....stacks of papers. Highly organized as I am (not), I was looking for my most recent copy of my homeowner's insurance. I had papers spread over the entire bed. I had another pile on the floor in the equipment room. I gave up looking and we left to pay the bill. After paying the bill we stopped by Staples. I wanted to look at desks. Halfway into the store our agent calls, "They don't want an inspection, they want a contractor to give an estimate of the repairs. They are coming at 4 pm, is that OK?"
"Sure", I answer, looking at the time.
"Crap! They will be here in an hour!" I tell my hubby.
We abandon the store and rush home, stuff ALL the papers in a box *sigh* and clean up quick. I mean quick, as in, "now were do I put....oh....just stuff it into a drawer."

So they come, the other agent, two younger guys and an older man. One of the young guys has a tablet and a camera. He takes a few pictures and enters a lot of info on his tablet. They ask a few questions. I point out the access doors to the attic and the plumbing for the tub. They discuss the hallway and the third bedroom. They ask for the refrigerator, we agree. We show them the garage. After a few more questions and discussions they thank us and leave. We are still waiting for an answer.

This Needs to Happen

The house sale needs to happen because we are not staying here. Tonight I asked my daughter if she can see the stars there. She said, "Of course! You can see the Milky Way, too!" All I could say was omg omg omg as tears welled up in my eyes AGAIN. I really do need rocks and stars and the Milky Way in my life. Trees, the ocean and mountains in the distance just round out the desires of my heart and soul. I will not let this house be a yolk around my neck, because staying here is killing my soul.

Look what I wrote...over to the right, where it says "Somewhere there is.....a place for us. I am no longer searching for hills and rocks. In life, sometimes we need to adjust our goals."

How sad is that!!! Well, it's NOT THERE ANYMORE BECAUSE I CHANGED IT. Yup, life is going to change. No more "adjusting goals." Why stay here when even the thought of having a nice house HERE makes me depressed.

So....I guess I need to start a new blog? The move needs to happen first.

The Wait

Don't count your chickens until they hatch. My mom used to say that. We can't count our house sold until the buyers are satisfied with the inspection, which hasn't happened yet. We need to clear everything out of the way for the inspector to do his stuff, and we can't be in the house while he does his stuff. That's a little nerve-wracking. He will be looking for lead paint, Radon, mold and structural damage. Everything is agreed on, but they buyers have the option to back out based on the results.

Consultations

Talked to a trusted electrician. Talked to a Realtor. Have an appointment tomorrow at noon with another Realtor, and another on Monday. Why so many? Because we need advice, lots of advice.

Well, here's the deal. If, let's just say IF we loved this house and we loved the area, we could stay here and nickle-dime this place until it's done. But we don't want to stay here. I don't want to stay here. I have problems with too much heat. I have problems with too much sun. Chalk it up to 16 weeks of radiation I guess, but I am really uncomfortable in hot weather, in hot/humid weather, in middle-of-the-day sunny weather. I am always ducking into the shade, or into the air conditioning. Add industrial pollution to the mix and I'm having trouble breathing on top of it all. Then winter comes and I am dealing with the cold. I want out of the Midwest.

We found out that we can't just get a breaker box put it...no...the whole house needs to be rewired, at considerable expense. The garage needs to be torn down, at considerable expense. We need carpentry work done, lots of it, at considerable expense. We could take a loan, get it all done, and maybe get the money back. Or we can cut our losses and run. It's time to go.

Back to the list of things to do...for now

The more we can get done, the better. We are not giving up on our dream to get out of here. We are developing an exit plan. Some good news, the illegal gas pipe is removed and the meter is capped. Today my hubby wheeled out the old, broken stove so we can begin repairs on that side of the kitchen. Next step, collect free estimates on the electrical we need done. Probably won't go with an electric stove, though...will need a gas line (by code) run for the stove location.I think we can get a handle on most of the house repairs. The garage is another matter. We think it's going to cost more to fix than its worth. We need a consultation with a realtor.
